What are the consequences?
With the recent news about several nude photos of Shrewsbury High School girls being posted online, there may be questions about the consequences of sexting, especially when minors are involved. According to a press release by Berkshire County District Attorney David Capeless, several jurisdictions have criminally charged people who were involved in this type of behavior. "'Sexting' may violate the laws of the Commonwealth that were established to keep our children safe. The child pornography laws in Massachusetts are all felonies; they are quite serious, and there are no 'lesser' charges (i.e. misdemeanors) that apply to this conduct," he said. According to Capeless any of these offenses can result in up to 20 years in state prison, fines…

The team of Shrewsbury, Westborough, Wachusett and St. Peter-Marian students held an electronics fundraiser Saturday.
Fans (and TVs, and monitors) coming to the Shrewsbury High School parking lot Saturday supported a multi-school girls ice hockey team. The Shrewsbury High team's first electronics fundraiser in two years was designed to help pay the students' expenses, co-captain Samantha DiReda said. The event is the group's only fundraiser, she said. The team is open to Shrewsbury students in grades seven to 12, and Westborough, Wachusett Regional and St. Peter-Marian high school students. "It's expensive," DiReda said. "Some players can't even play because it was $1,000 last year." Saturday's event raised about $5,000, team member Melanie Borglund said. The season lasts 20 games, plus playoffs, DiReda said. Last season, the team finished 9-7-5 and …

Two Shrewsbury High School seniors won art awards this weekend at the Westboro Gallery.
Two students from Shrewsbury High School shared the honor of winning an art award that allowed them both to have an art show at the Westboro Gallery this weekend. Teagan Flint and Stephanie Kalinowski, both seniors at the high school, submitted artwork and shared the award. "This is such a great honor and we're best friends," said Kalinkowski. "We're so excited to share our work." Shrewsbury High School Art Teacher Shari Fox said both students submitted art to be considered for the contest. "The judges couldn't decide between the two because it was so close," Fox said. "So, they decided to award both students the award, so they both had an art show this weekend."
