Trivia Night at Shrewsbury Public Library

Local residents gathered to play trivia at the Shrewsbury Public Library.

Teams of six competed on Tuesday for a $50 gift card at Shrewsbury's Public Library during its weekly trivia contest.  Dan Barbour, the host of the event, asked a range of general knowledge questions to the event's attendees who racked their brains while enjoying some free pizza.

Teens Learn to Knit at Library

Knitting is rewarding, one teen says.

Several Shrewsbury teens learned a new hobby in recent weeks. Through three weekly one-hour sessions at the Shrewsbury Public Library, participants in the program for teens in grades 8 through 12 learned various basic knitting techniques by creating a bookmark, according to Sharon Martin. Martin is the children's librarian and ran the program, which ended Friday. "It's fantastic," Martin said of knitting. "It relaxes me. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to make something work." While the program has ended, Martin said she would like to run another one and that adults have shown interest in learning the hobby as well.  Participants included sisters Briana Huie, 17, and Kristen Huie, 12. IMAGE GALLERY: Worldly Crafts

Today's photos feature scenes from a recent craft program held at the Shrewsbury Library.

Each week, the library hosts a "One World" craft program for children. This week's program began with a book about the Andes Mountains. The craft tables featured projects related to South America and Chile, llamas, Inca masks and more.  The next event, geared toward children in grades 1-4, will be held Aug. 11.

Summer Reading Program for Adults

The library has scheduled a summer reading program for adults.

Novel Destinations is the summer reading program for adults for the summer at the Shrewsbury Public Library. Sign up at their website or go to the library website and click on the link under News and Announcements. Log in the titles of the books you read and remember to pick up a raffle ticket whenever you read a book, beginning June 23. Every week, the library will raffle off a different prize.
