District Honors, District Wins and Grants Galore: the Superintendent's Recap

Letter from the superintendent shines a light on wins, awards and accomplishments at the schools.

Submitted by Superintendent of Schools Joe Sawyer As we begin the Thanksgiving break, I wanted to provide you with a few updates: • SHS Successes: Congratulations to the many SHS students who have represented our community with distinction in various competitions.  A few recent highlights include: The Speech and Debate team finished 9th out of close to 100 schools from 10 different states in a recent regional tournament in at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Based on competitive auditions, forty SHS musicians and vocalists were selected for All District honors, and of these 20 are being honored as All State. The fall play, Romeo & Juliet, was a success, while the Theatre Department won the prestigious Moss Hart Award given by the …

Cultural Council Awards Local Grants

Local schools, the library and the senior center were all among funding recipients.

The Shrewsbury Cultural Council has announced the award of 18 grants totaling $6,067 to help support cultural programs offered locally during the upcoming year. Grant recipients include: Several recipients received more than one grant. Massachusetts has 329 local councils serving 351 cities and towns. The councils are funded by the state through the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Annually more than $2 million in grants is awarded to more than 5,000 programs. These include school programs, lectures, theater, dance, music, visual arts, etc. Individuals, schools, and cultural organizations are eligible to apply for project support.
