VIDEO: World War I Memorial Decommissioned

As the fundraising comes close to their goal, the World War I Memorial will be removed soon.

Town and state officials along with veterans and school children gathered in front of Beal School to say goodbye to the World War I Memorial, which will be replaced. "Within about a week or so, the memorial will be removed," said Arthur Dobson, a Korean War veteran who has been involved with the fundraising to replace the memorial. "We had to decommission it first and we have over $70,000 in funding, not including the in-kind donations as well." About $150,000 is needed to replace the memorial, and the Veterans Council has worked throughout the year to raise the funds. To donate, visit their website. Kindergarteners Enjoy Beal Singalong

Every Friday, the Beal students sing together as a school for part of their music program.

The weekly singalong at Beal Early Childhood Center builds community while incorporating academic content such as counting, according to Principal Alice Brennan. The school has two singalongs every Friday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Roughly 140 children participated in the afternoon singalong last Friday, Brennan said. While singing songs such as the National Anthem, Alligator in the Elevator, the Star-Spangled Banner, Row Your Boat and songs about the four seasons and the days of the week, the singalong also celebrates students' birthdays with song.
