Police Notes

Police Investigate Garden Vandalism, Stolen Ladder Rack

The following information was provided by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, May 28 9:39 a.m.: A resident of Arbor Drive reported that the ladder rack had been stolen off their motor vehicle overnight. 10:19 a.m.: Officers arrested Nicholas P. Ferrante, 28, of 23 Grace Ave. on warrant charges of breaking and entering and receiving stolen property. 1:23 p.m.: A resident of South Quinsigamond reported that someone puller her flower from the ground. 2:40 p.m.: A caller reported a dead dog on Main Street. The Animal Control Officer responded and observed that it was a woodchuck not a dog. 4:33 p.m.: An officer from the Shrewsbury Police Department stopped several vehicles on Boston Turnpike at Maple Avenue. 6:58 p.m.: One vehicle was towed after a three-car crash on Boston Turnpike.

Friday, May 24 8:25 a.m.: A 911 caller reported a smoking transformer on South Street. The Shrewsbury Fire Department responded. 9:47 a.m.: The Animal Control Officer removed a large turtle from Lake Street near Route 9. 11:04 a.m.: A caller from Swan Circle reported that items had been stolen from outside of her home including a for sale sign. 12:36 p.m.: A caller from CVS reported a panhandler outside causing problems. 3:38 p.m.: A caller reported a suspicious male on Prospect Street wearing a black suit and a white mask. Saturday, May 25 9:35 a.m.: A caller from Appaloosa Drive reported a past larceny. 10:50 a.m.: A resident of Hawkridge Road reported a past larceny. 1:23 p.m.: Officers from the Shrewsbury Police Department investigated…

Laptop Stolen During Motor Vehicle Break-In at Shrewsbury Commons

The following information was provided by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, May 20 9:08 a.m.: The Animal Control Officer responded to Browning Road after a resident reported an injured bird. 11:25 a.m.: A resident of Shrewsbury Commons reported that his vehicle had been broken into and his laptop was stolen. 3:21 p.m.: An officer stopped a vehicle on the Route 9 bridge and issued the driver a ticket. 4:45 p.m.: An officer issued several written warnings to vehicles on Lake Street. 6:07 p.m.: A resident of South Quinsigamond reported that her neighbor was shooting a firearm in the area of the lake. Tuesday, May 21 4:37 a.m.: A caller reported a male sleeping in a vehicle on Grafton Street. Officers responded and the man was transported to UMass Medical Center for treatment.

Thursday, May 16 12:27 p.m.: The Animal Control Officer searched Lakeside Drive after a report od a loose dog. 4:42 p.m.: A Shrewsbury police officer assisted a resident of Balsam Circle after the resident reported a suspicious package. 4:51 p.m.: The Animal Control Officer issued a pet owner on Pond View Drive a citation after a complaint. 11:06 p.m.: A caller reported loud music on Wingate Street. Officers responded and spoke to a resident where the loud music was originating. A few weeks ago a resident on Hancock Street contacted Animal Control Officer Leona Pease about a fox that apparently taken to living under her shed. She saw the fox every day, and the fox would run from the backyard under the shed when she knew the owner was looking. Pease responded to the woman, saying "I am guessing that the fox may have a litter under your shed. This means that you will have the wonderful opportunity to watch baby foxes playing around the den. The fox is acting appropriately running back into the den when you open your door. She should not be any kind of a threat to you or your family. It is important that any children that may be involved understand that these are wild animals that we watch from the house and not a …

You Can't Have More Than 24 Chickens in Shrewsbury

Animal Control Officer Leona Lease details the laws that pertain to animals in town.

You can have as many dogs, and cats as you want in Shrewsbury. But only 24 chickens are allowed, and the town strongly urges you to refrain from owning roosters. Shrewsbury Patch talked to Animal Control Officer Leona Pease about the rules and regulations regarding animals in town. Some may be surprising. Pease is celebrating her tenth year as ACO in Shrewsbury, and has been working professionally with animals since she was 15. She started as a dog sitter at a Siberian Husky show kennel, and has been training dogs ever since. She also has been employed by the DMH and DEP for more than 22 years, managing kennels, showing dogs, grooming and working for veterianians on a part-time basis.
