Help SPLAT with a Raffle Basket Donation

The popular raffle is back.

This fall, SPLAT (Shrewsbury Public Library Advisory Team) hosts its popular basket raffle to raise money for teen programs and materials at the Shrewsbury Public Library.

"SPAT is a group of 5th-12th graders that I coordinate at the library," said Dan Barbour, young adult librarian. "They help plan events, choose materials, and do community service both in the library and the community. We currently have over 75 active members, and over 600 people on our mailing list."

If your family and/or business would like to sponsor a gift basket, here is what you'll get:

  • Your name/business name on the basket in our lobby running from late September to mid-November
  • A thank you in our quarterly newsletter (winter 2013/14) which is sent to every residential mailbox in Shrewsbury
  • A mention on this list serve and the adult list serve which reaches just over 1,500 inboxes combined
The baskets can be any theme that will be popular and sell tickets to the general public. Typically, the value of the gift baskets is $50-$100 each. Popular baskets in the past have included tea time, baby toys, movie night, gift wrap, Christmas decorations (which was already donated for this year!).
All items in the baskets must be in new condition. Thinking outside of the box is encouraged - one year we had a beach basket, but instead of a basket, a pail was used, and it sold a ton of tickets. The SPLAT team has no set budget for programs, and relies on local donors (such as Dunkin Donuts, the Friends of the SPL, and Papa Gino's), as well as these fundraisers to offer the many fun and educational events we are fortunate to host.

If you would like to support SPLAT by donating a basket, email Dan Barbour at dbarbour@cwmars.org.

The deadline for donating a basket is Thursday, Sept. 12, and "we plan to unveil our baskets on Sept. 19," said Barbour.  "If you aren't in a position to donate a basket, consider buying a raffle ticket or two when the raffle takes place.  We appreciate all the support we get, and hopefully this year's raffle will be better than ever!"
