First Annual Turkey Trot in Shrewsbury [Video]

Sherwood Middle School Principal coordinates turkey trot for Thanksgiving morning.

Principal Jane Lizotte and her family has pulled together the first annual turkey trot, though her family is no stranger to running.

Lizotte, who came from a family with 10 kids, said their parents were always encouraging them to exercise.

"We always did a run on Thanksgiving around the neighborhood—I grew up on Prospect Street," she said. "We always did something active as a family."

Lizotte said that with 10 kids, her parents always found a way to have fun with free activities like walking, hiking, jogging, camping and playing outside.

This year, Lizotte and her brother decided to honor her father, who died from Alzheimer's disease four years ago.

The first annual turkey trot will take place on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. and include a 5-mile and 2-mile run/walk and all proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts/New Hampshire.

The turkey trot will begin and end at the town common.
