Shrewsbury Residents Could See 5 Percent Tax Hike

New growth is keeping Shrewsbury's value up.

The Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen has been meeting this week, trying to put together final property tax amounts before the next set of bills is sent out, and the numbers they're coming to might be a surprise.

According to the Shrewsbury Daily Voice, property taxes could be at nearly a 5 percent increase over last year's bills.

"The town's value has been increasing slightly since 2011. However, if it hadn't been for new growth in the past year, the town would have been worth less in 2012 than in 2011," the Daily Voice said, paraphrasing Town Manager Daniel Morgado.
