Phone Conferencing Approved For Shrewsbury Meetings

Recent changes to the state's open meeting laws have allowed for board members to participate remotely.

On Tuesday night the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen made a decision to allow remote participation in their meetings for members who are unable to attend.

"This will allow for people who are out of town for business to participate in the meeting," Town Manager Dan Morgado said. "I think it will be used fairly infrequently."

The decision comes after state leaders changed the open meeting laws to allow for remote participation.

The decision will allow any member of any town board to participate in the meeting in a voice only phone conference style.

"We are only going to be using existing technology, there will be no additional cost to implement this change," Morgado said.
