Moore Beats Simonian for Senate Seat

The incumbent is "excited to get started in January."

Incumbent Michael Moore has retained his seat in the state senate, trumping Republican challenger Steve Simonian in the Second Worcester District. Simonian recently conceded to Moore, according to campaign manager Keith Mitchell.

Sen. Moore, D-Millbury, was elected in Nov. of 2008 and represents the towns of Auburn, Grafton, Leicester, Millbury, Wards 2 and 4 in Northbridge, Shrewsbury, Upton and Wards 5-7 and Precincts 1 and 5 in Ward 8 in Worcester.

“I’m honored by the overwhelming show of support I’ve received throughout this election," said Moore, celebrating at Calabria in Millbury, "but behind every campaign is a team of selfless volunteers, giving their heart and soul to our cause. We are joined together by a common belief in good jobs, fair pay, equal opportunity, tax relief, and government accountability. To the many volunteers and supporters who’ve sacrificed their time and effort to bring our message to the voters, I extend my deepest humility and gratitude."

Moore added that he recognizes the work Simonian put into the race.

Moore says he ran a positive campaign that focused on issues that matter to locals.

"Over the last four years, I’ve given 110 percent to addressing the needs and concerns of our citizens," he said, "and I think people have responded to my record of results, as well as my vision for the future. It truly is an honor and a privilege to represent the Second Worcester District, and I’m excited to get started once again in January.”
