Woman Crashes Into Tree on I-290 Wednesday Morning

Traffic was backed up for about an hour after a woman veered off the highway.

Massachusetts State Police responded to calls reporting a car off I-290 westbound near exit 22 in Shrewsbury shortly before 9 a.m.

The 79-year-old female driver had veerred off the roadway from the passing lane into the wooded median area, hitting a tree. She was trapped in her car, which landed about 75 feet into the woods, said police.

Shrewsbury EMS transported the woman to UMass Medical Center, where is is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
