UPDATED: Break-in Suspect Eludes Police [VIDEO]

A homeowner walked in on a break-in suspect on Minuteman Way earlier today. Police are asking for help in finding the suspect.

Shrewsbury Police responded to a call at 9:30 a.m. for a reported attempted house break at 9 Minuteman Way in Shrewsbury.

The homeowner at this address had just returned home and he observed the suspect attempting to gain entry to the house. Upon seeing the homeowner the suspect jumped off the rear deck.

The suspect fled the area on foot into a wooded area behind the house. The homeowner briefly chased the suspect, but the suspect eluded him.

The suspect ran into the wooded area near Millwood and Pondview drives. Shrewsbury Police searched the area along with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit and Massachusetts State Police Air Wing (Helicopter).

A neighbor on Minuteman Way said police were searching for a 19-year-old suspect.

"This has never happened in the 25 years I lived here," said the neighbor, who declined to give her name. "I can't believe this."

The suspect is described as a man, about 5-foot-10-inches tall, approximately 19-23 years old with dirty-blond hair. The suspect was wearing a black and white, checkered hoodie sweat shirt, jean shorts and tan boots. After approximately a two-hour search of the area, the suspect eluded police.

Shrewsbury Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the suspect or have any information to please call Detective Paul Brown of the Shrewsbury Police Department at 508-841-8455
