Update: Woman Arrested After Driving Into Shrewsbury Officer

Late yesterday morning an officer attempted to stop the operator for operating erratically on Route 9.

The Shrewsbury Police Department has arrested a woman that allegedly attempted to run down an officer that stopped her for erratic driving.

According to a press release from the department, a traffic officer first saw the vehicle near White City Shopping Center at 11:40 a.m.

“Officer Lawrence Napolitano approached the motor vehicle on Route 9 and the operator was not cooperative. The suspect vehicle then fled the stop and made contact with the Shrewsbury officer,” the release said.

Later in the day an officer saw the vehicle on Main Street near Carlton Street and attempted to stop the vehicle.

“Shrewsbury Police deployed 'stop sticks' at this time and the vehicle came to a stop a short distance later. Once again the suspect refused to cooperate with Police. The Officers on scene transported the suspect to U-Mass Emergency Mental Health for evaluation.”

The woman’s name has not yet been released by the department.

Officer Napolitano was not injured after being struck.
