Rings Snatched From Jeweler's Hand

Police recovered them from a Shrewsbury jewelry store, where the suspect sold them.

A man grabbed two rings from the hand of a Westmeadow Plaza jewelry store owner on Thursday -- and then sold them in Shrewsbury, Police Chief Alan Gordon said today.

The Towne & Country Jewelers' owner chased the unarmed robber at the Milk Street plaza, where a Mercury Mountaineer was waiting for the suspect in an adjacent parking lot, Gordon told Westborough Patch.

Police recovered the rings, valued at $1,000 and $300, from Jacob Jewelers on Route 9 in Shrewsbury that day, Gordon said. The getaway vehicle drove right there, the chief said.

The unarmed robbery happened around 1:44 p.m.

Police have identified a suspect thanks to Westborough Police Detective Stephen Tompkins' investigation, which continues, Gordon said.

Towne & Country's owner noted the getaway vehicle's license plate number, which Westborough Police learned is registed to a Leicester resident, Gordon said.

The suspect is not from Leicester, Gordon said.

Police also have interviewed other people who were in the vehicle, he said.

Staff at both stores declined comment today.
