Pedestrian Struck, Killed on Route 290

State Police are investigating the fatal accident and have not charged the driver.

A man was struck and killed while trying to cross Route 290 in Worcester last night.

State Police responded to the scene after a report of a man walking on the Lincoln Street on-ramp toward Route 290. While en route, police received a call from a driver who said she just struck the pedestrian on Route 290, according to State Police.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified yet, died at the scene. The driver, a 51-year-old Worcester woman, was not injured and was not charged in the accident, said police.

State Police said the driver was driving eastbound on Route 290 when she struck the pedestrian, who first entered the highway in the westbound lane and then crossed onto the eastbound site, according to police.

State Police are investigating the crash with the help of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit attached to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
