In Court: Alleged Copper Thieves Arraigned

Christopher A. Shaw, 32, of 33 Hopkinton Rd., Westborough, was summonsed on a complaint from the Northborough police department on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime and four counts of conspiracy. Judge Robert Calgione set bail at $500 cash and set a pretrial hearing for Oct. 31. Northborough police allege Shaw conspired with another person to steal and sell copper piping from vacant homes in town.  

Keefe J. Morrison, 30, of 33 White Court, Clinton, was summonsed on a complaint from the Northborough police department on charges of defacing property and breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony. Judge Robert Calgione set bail at $500 cash and set a pretrial hearing for Oct. 31. 

William P. Jessup, 49, of 201 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton, was arrested by Southborough police on a charge of assault and battery. Judge Robert Calgione set a pretrial hearing for Nov. 8.  

William R. Hamilton, 42, of 1790 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenberg, was found guilty of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon by Judge Vito Virzi. Hamilton was sentenced to serve 30 days in the House of Corrections and given credit for time served on the charges, which were brought by Shrewsbury police.  

Charges of shoplifting and larceny over $250 originally brought by Westborough police against Richard Laney, 34, of 6 Ticonderoga Ln., Millis, were dismissed by Judge Vito Virzi at the request of prosecutors, who said in a court filing that a video provided by Laney's employer showed he was at work at the time of the alleged offense.  

Soogin Doo, 21, of 3 Gary Cir., Grafton, was found responsible on a decriminalized charge of possession of marijuana and responsible on a charge of trespass by Judge Robert Gardner. Doo, who had originally been charged with possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute by Grafton police, was ordered to pay a $100 fine on each charge.  

Allan S. Beard, 26, of 87 Nicholas Ave., Boylston, was arrested by Shrewsbury police on charges of shoplifting by concealing merchandise and conspiracy. Judge Robert Calgione found Beard guilty on the shoplifting charge and ordered him to pay a $200 fine. The conspiracy charge was dismissed. 

Naomi Brown, 24, of 245 E. Main St., Marlborough, was arrested by Shrewsbury police on Oct. 2 and charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise and conspiracy. Judge Robert Calgione found Brown guilty of shoplifting and ordered her to pay a $200 fine. The conspiracy charge was dismissed.
