Update: Accident: Car Vs. Moose on Route 290

A report came in shortly before 10 p.m. of a car accident involving a moose.

Update: Two people were injured in a two-car collision with a moose that wandered onto Route 290 westbound Friday night shortly before 10 p.m.

“Several people were injured and transported to UMass Hospital,” said Shrewsbury Fire Captain Bruce Card of the accident which occurred past exit 23.

The two injured people were extracted from their vehicles and transported by Worcester EMS, he said. The two year-old moose died at the scene and was examined by environmental police. Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene to handle the investigation of the accident, said Card.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday night a car accident reportedly involving a moose occurred on Route 290 westbound near the intersection with Route 140.

The accident was responded to by Massachusetts State Police and Shrewsbury Fire personnel, according to officials. The scene was cleared of fire personnel at approximately 10:20 p.m. with police still on scene.
