Voters Recognize Scare Tactics

Harry Truman once said "If you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em."

It seems that override opponents have adopted this approach with their blatant campaign to spread inaccurate information about the activities of proponents and on signs wrongly stating that the upcoming ballot question is the "First in a Series of Permanent Overrides."  I'm confident that the voters of Shrewsbury are wise enough to recognize scare tactics used by those who can't offer convincing arguments for their position.

But these tactics can't change the facts.  Town services have been restructured through privatization, regionalization and staffing reductions, yet, the achieved revenue gains have been effectively eliminated due to regulatory mandates and decreased State Local Aid.

Seeing no relief from mandates, minimal increases in State Aid, limited opportunities to further reduce costs without significantly changing levels of service and realizing that commercial development alone will not solve the problem, the Selectmen believe it is time to ask voters to carefully consider what type of community they want Shrewsbury to be today and in the future.

"Yes" is a fiscally responsible vote to invest in our community so all residents can continue to enjoy quality core services at one of the lowest tax rates in the State.

I encourage voters to get the facts and vote "Yes" at the Special Town Election on June 3rd.
