Literary Lounging

Find your literary bliss in this week's Great Escape.

In this era of Kindles and Nooks, of Web publishing and blogging, the demise of the brick-and-mortar bookstore is always a point of debate at my book club meetings. I take the view that a good bookstore is a true treasure. is one of my favorite destinations when I just want to relax.

I love to browse the new releases section at the front of the store and leaf through the pages of the books–something you can’t do online. The store also sells games, movies, music, maps, cards and gifts and just about anything else a literary wanderer might desire.

These days, a good bookstore has more than just merchandise, and Borders does not disappoint. With a café featuring delicious drinks, pastries sandwiches as well as free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating, Borders is a place to sit down, relax and enjoy.

Don’t forget to check out the great events Borders hosts. Every Friday night at 6 p.m., Open Mic Night draws in a crowd. The store also hosts three monthly book groups: Classics (the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.), Literature (the third Wednesday each month at 7 p.m.), and New Earth (the last Friday of each month at 7 p.m.). Call or visit the store to find out what each group is reading this month.
