Former Spag's Worker Dies

John C. "Jack" Swanstrom, Sr., 73, of Worcester and formerly of Auburn, died.

John C. “Jack” Swanstrom, Sr., 73, of Worcester and formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday, May 8 at the Autumn Village Nursing and Rehab Center, Worcester.

He leaves his three sons, John C. Swanstrom, Jr. of Louisville, KY, Steven E. Swanstrom of Houston, TX and Todd J. Swanstrom of Moscow, ID; his former wife, Elizabeth A. “Betty” Kelley of Auburn; his three siblings, Carol Snow of Charlton, Errol Swanstrom of Danvers and Linda Conant of East Granby, CT; his five grandchildren, John C. Swanstrom, III and Andrew D. Swanstrom, and Chantal, Kaitlin and Nicholas Swanstrom; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Adolph and June (Dunkerton) Swanstrom, and lived in Auburn and Worcester most of his life. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School, and then entered the U.S. Marine Corps. He served several years with 1st Communication Co, Worcester Marine Corps Reserve Center.

John was a trained pattern maker, but spent most of his career working at the former Spag’s Supply of Shrewsbury, where he was a manager in the electrical and paint departments. He enjoyed bird watching and was a member of the Marine Corps League, Worcester Detachment.

Burial was with Military honors at All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester on Saturday, May 12. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Autumn Village Patient Activity Fund, 25 Oriole Dr., Worcester, MA 01605. To leave a message of condolence for John’s family, please visit .
