SHREWSBURY REPUBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSES LIBRARY PROJECT

The Shrewsbury Republican Town Committee (SRTC) met last night and has joined State Representative Matt Beaton in endorsing the new Shrewsbury Library rebuild project which will be voted on by the town next Tuesday, November 5, 2013. SRTC Chair and State Committeeman Mindy McKenzie-Hebert says, “Shrewsbury has an opportunity to leverage its’ own investment in a highly used public building with a $7.9 million state grant and over $1.75 million in privately raised funds, solely accessible if we as Shrewsbury residents vote Yes on Tuesday, November 5th.  We believe that this is the most fiscally responsible use of taxpayer resources and we encourage all Shrewsbury residents to learn the facts about the project and join us in voting YES.”

The Shrewsbury Republican Town Committee is bolstered by State Representative Matt Beaton’s recent endorsement where Representative Beaton shared his thoughts, “If we do not pass this debt exclusion, the problem with our library does not go away.  If we do not take this opportunity to utilize the state grant and private funding for a new building, we will still need to invest at least $12.8 million to fix the existing building to bring it up to current building code and handicap accessibility standards. To me, the smartest and most fiscally responsible answer is to vote yes for the library on November 5th!”

SRTC Vice-chair Hannah Kane brought the discussion to the floor.  A motion to support the project was offered by Shrewsbury Republican Town Committee member Vincent DiLeo then seconded by SRTC member Jim Kane, and was unanimously adopted by all members present at the meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
