"Invisible Students" Need Attention

Is your Shrewsbury Public school student becoming “invisible”?  A large student population in our school district has become invisible because Shrewsbury has one of the highest students to teacher ratios in the state (ranking 390 out of 403 school districts).  The invisible students are the “middle of the road” students who are meeting benchmarks in the classroom.

Teachers are put in the impossible position of having to prioritize students.  They have a mixture of students in every classroom with needs such as:  English as a second language; special educational needs; students struggling to grasp material; and children with behavioral issues.

The classes are too large and are not conducive to meeting the student needs.  As a result, teachers are unable to have active classroom discussion and there is less opportunity to engage in complex learning activities or science experiments.
