Summer Multicultural Festival - Middle Eastern Music and Dance

Introduction to Middle Eastern Music and Dance. Presented by Edward J Hines, this participatory workshop is a fun and fascinating introduction to the cultures of the Middle East.  It features demonstrations of folk & classical instruments (strings, winds & percussion) from both Turkey and the Arab world.  Learn about the unique modes and scales of the region (maqamat) and hear comparisons of Eastern and Western musical styles. But the highlight of the workshop is when everyone joins in learning easy Middle Eastern folk dances.  Learn something new and have a lot of fun! A drop-in program that all ages can enjoy.
