Foreclosure Filings in Shrewsbury Among Highest in County

In July, Worcester County had the highest number of foreclosure filings in the state.

Shrewsbury had the fourth-highest number of foreclosures in Worcester County in July, according to data compiled by RealtyTrac and reported on GoLocal.

The town had 21 foreclosure filings in July. This put it behind Worcester (116), Fitchburg (44) and Leominster (25).

Foreclosure filings refer to the initial legal process of selling a mortgaged property that is in default.

One in every 698 housing units in Worcester County received a foreclosure filing last month, according to RealtyTrac.

In Shrewsbury, it was one in every 665 units.

Cory S. Hopkins, editorial director of The Warren Group, told GoLocal that "it's necessary for a wave of foreclosures to work through the system this year, but it shouldn't cause panic."
