5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 19

What should Drexel the dog's fate be?

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Drexel the dog's fate is now in the hands of the selectmen. Three residents spoke about being upset the boxer is often loose, but one reader said it's not a big deal. What do you think?

2. Today is Patriots Day—the start of the American Revolution in 1775. What will you do to honor the men who gave their lives for this country's freedom?

3. Shrewsbury resident and Worcester physician Harvey G. Clermont, MD, an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2012 recipient of the Grant V. Rodkey Award, an honor recognizing a Massachusetts physician for outstanding contributions to medical education and medical students. Clermont is a board certified general and vascular surgeon who has practiced in Worcester since 1973. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a former US Navy Medical Officer.

In nominating him for the award, his colleagues remarked that “Dr. Clermont is known around UMass for two things, his unwavering commitment to the greater Worcester free clinics, and his endless support of student development and education."

4. Daddy's Junky Music on Route 9 west has been empty for a while now. What do you think should go here? One reader said a Sbarro. Do you agree?

5. Dr. Todd Pizzi wants you to smile, or so he says in his latest blog post. What would you want to say to readers if you had a platform like Dr. Pizzi? If you have something to say, blog with Patch!
