Like best about owning/running this business: "I like that it's different," Knox said, adding that there is always something going on and that the studio keeps busy. "I enjoy people, I enjoy kids ... It really is all about helping people make memories."

Like least: "It's a business. It's 24/7. Even though it's fun, it's a job," she said, adding that when something does go wrong she tends to take it personally. "Sometimes you just don't have control over things."

Where you see yourself five years from now: Knox said she plans on expanding the studio, not by expanding the building or adding multiple locations but through out-programs such as traveling to schools, functions and fundraisers.

Advice for someone new to the business: "It's a real hands-on business," she said. "It's a huge committment of time."

Before opening ClayTime in 1999, Laurel Knox owned a hair salon in Auburn for 16 years.

There are lots of projects to choose from at ClayTime and Knox said she feels the business is "open" and "fun." Summer programs are also offered.
