Marc Theroux, father of three daughters and husband of a local Grafton
dentist Tina Theroux, plans to get a “Buzz Cut” before running in the Boston
Marathon on April 15.
If Marc reaches his fundraising goal of $9,200 by April 6, 2013, he will buzz cut his long dark hair. The hair cut symbolizes his solidarity with those suffering with hair loss when undergoing cancer treatments. The top four contributors to Marc’s goal will have the opportunity to actually perform the “Buzz Cut.” Every donor will have their name printed on the back of Marc’s Dana Farber team running shirt which he will wear when he runs. Marc is a personal trainer and co-owner of Optimal Performance Center, a personal training, sports and endurance training studio in Shrewsbury.
Donations are well on their way to reaching and hopefully surpassing Marc’s goal but more help is needed.
“I have been blessed with three beautiful healthy daughters and a wonderful wife, but I know so many families that are currently dealing with cancer, and what those families have to endure is just tragic. In a world as advanced as ours, with enough research, hopefully someday it won’t have to be such a tragic
event,” says Marc. “I want to run to help raise funds for research so the best treatments will be available for everyone in the future. No one knows when cancer can strike a family. I have personally called my donors to thank them. In those conversations, I have been touched with the stories of people they know
that are currently fighting this horrible disease.”
Every dollar Marc and his teammates raise supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana Farber, which funds the brightest, most creative scientists making basic research discoveries
Marc, 48, is a 10-year Grafton resident. His family has supported many charities in surrounding towns. He is hoping that people can contribute a small donation to help fight this terrible disease.
