No Fines at the Library to Benefit WWI Memorial

In lieu of paying your fines, those who owe are asked to donate.

Submitted by George C. Brown, assistant library director, head of adult services, Shrewsbury Public Library

The Shrewsbury Public Library is now holding an amnesty period throughout the
month of November to benefit the World War I Memorial Project.

During this time, no new fines will be charged for late items. Furthermore, all
who come into the Library during that period can have any older fines still on their card wiped out. Not included in this amnesty, however, are charges for replacement of lost or damaged library materials.

In lieu of fines, library users are encouraged to make voluntary contributions to
benefit the World War I Memorial Project. Checks can be made to “Victor Quaranta Post.

The old WWI Memorial in front of Beale School has deteriorated beyond simple
repair, and a new monument is needed to replace the old one. Local veteran groups have banded together to raise the money for this project. With their goal now within sight, this year’s book fine amnesty at the Library is an opportunity for everyone to help obtain the funds needed to begin work on this very worthwhile project.

The Shrewsbury Public Library is proud to be able to help the committee in this noble and needed effort. For more information about this amnesty period, call the Library at 508-842-0081.
