Beating the Heat At Sunset Beach

Hundreds of kids, and a few adults, too, took to the lakeside at Sunset Beach on Wednesday, as temps clocked in above 90 degrees.

While privately owned, the beach is open to residents throughout the summer, and the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation department runs a weekday program, busing children Monday through Thursday from two neighborhood schools.

"There are definitely not usually as many extra people at the beach," said Parks and Rec supervisor Susan Cappucci.

The beach, set on Lake Quinsigamond, includes a dock with a diving board and slide and and an extra high jumping deck, as well as a basketball hoop in the roped area. There's also a hoop on land, ping pong tables, picnic tables and a snack shack.

Sunset Beach is open to all residents.

Thanks to our jumpers, and sliders: Matt DiVittorio, 13; Marlon Toon, Jr., 13; Justin Toon, 10; Conor McTigue, 10; and Ryan McTigue, 7.

These guys have the right idea. So how are you beating the heat?
