Shrewsbury's Abraham is Worcester District Medical Society’s Community Clinician of the Year

Shrewsbury resident Annie Abraham, M.D. has been honored by her peers as the 2014 Community Clinician of the Year of the Worcester District Medical Society, an award honoring her professionalism and contributions as a physician. 

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community and who stands out as a leading advocate and caregiver. The Worcester District has nearly 1,700 physicians as members. The award will be presented April 16 at the district’s annual business meeting at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester.  

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Abraham is a primary care physician at Primary Physician Partners in Worcester, an internal medicine practice providing comprehensive health care for adults.

A graduate of Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, Dr. Abraham began her medical career at Leprosy Mission Hospital in Southern India in 1972. Following a decade of service at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, she accepted a position at Reliant Medical Group (then Fallon Clinic) in Worcester in 1988.

She is a co-founder of the M. Elizabeth Fletcher Women’s Wellness Center in Worcester, a multi-disciplinary resource center for women in medicine that allows them to teach, counsel, and share talents. For her efforts, Dr. Abraham was honored in 1992 as Reliant Medical Group’s Physician of the Year. She was also honored in 1999 as Community Educator of the Year by the University of Massachusetts Medical Center for her work with students and medical residents.

Dr. Abraham has been a member of the Worcester District Medical Society and the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1990 and has served the state society as a member of its House of Delegates.  

The Massachusetts Medical Society, with more than 24,000 physicians and student members, is dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts.
