Gymnastics Learning Center Gymnasts Win Championships!

            The Junior Olympic Girls Team from the Gymnastics Learning Center (GLC) in Shrewsbury, coached by Nikki & Robert Elroy, Jennifer Belculfine, and Josh Orton, has had an amazing 2014 season. Sydney Malko and Lianne Josbacher, Level 10 gymnasts, will be heading to Jackson, Mississippi for the Junior Olympic National Championships in May.

            Sydney Malko, a sophomore at Shrewsbury High School, is this year’s State Floor Champion, and at the Regional Meet held recently in Springfield, MA, Sydney placed 3rd on Beam, 4th on Floor, and 2nd All Around in the Region, earning her a place on the Junior C Team at Nationals. This is Sydney’s 3rd year as a Level 10 gymnast and her 2nd trip to Nationals.

            Lianne Josbacher, a senior at K12 International Academy, placed 2nd on all events and the All Around at States, and took 1st place on all events and the All Around, scoring a personal best of 38.225 at Regionals in the Senior D age group. Lianne has been a Level 10 gymnast for 6 years, and this will be her 6th trip to Nationals. She has earned a full scholarship for gymnastics next year at Boise State University in Idaho.

            Olivia Zona, an eighth grader from Shrewsbury, and a Level 9 gymnast, took 1st Place on Floor at the Regional Championships, and 2nd All-Around. She earned a place on the Regional Level 9 Junior 7 Team. In May, Olivia competed at the Eastern Championships held in Bradenton, Florida. The top 25 gymnasts in each age group from the eastern half of the US competed. Olivia’s winning Floor routine earned her the title of Eastern National Floor Champion.

            GLC Girls State Champions at Level 3 include: Hailey Kriz (age7) on Bars; Anjali Buradagunta (age 6) on Beam; and Riley Wildt (age 10) on Vault, Bars and All-Around. In Level 4, Kira Punter (age 8) took 1st on Beam; Emma Conca (age 8) on Floor and All-Around; and Ellora Bowlin (age 9) on Floor and All-Around. Level 6’s Emily Bowlin (age 11) was the Floor Champion and Melissa Long (age 12) took 1st on Beam, Floor and All-Around. In Level 7, Annie Mills (age 8) took 1st on Bars, Beam and All-Around; and Julia Forget (age 11) was the Vault and All-Around champion in their respective age groups.
