Only One More Drop-Off Brush Day; Main Street Closed for Two Weeks

Here's what you need to know on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

1. Did you  know that each year the Shrewsbury Garden Club offers scholarship(s) to further the education of Shrewsbury residents in the fields of horticulture, landscaping, environmental studies or related fields? Indeed. Read more about it on its website.

2. On Tuesday, the Shrewsbury Public Library hosts an English Conversation Circle, which are weekly sessions where non-native English speakers gather to practice speaking English in a safe environment. Registration required.

3. You've only got one day left this season to drop off brush at the Municipal Garage. Make sure you don't miss it.

4. SHARC is joining the annual Scarecrow Contest on the Common, using Patricia Babbitt Minton's idea of dressing up the scarecrow in exercise clothes, weights and an iPod. These scarecrows will be on display from Sept. 28 through Oct. 19.

5. Main Street between Founders Road and South Street will be closed to thru traffic during the daylight working hours starting Wednesday, Sept. 18 for two weeks, according to a post on the town's website. "This closure is necessary because of ongoing sewer construction. Detours will be set-up around the area.  The roadway will be re-opened to thru traffic each evening.  Please plan your daily travel accordingly and thank you for your patience."
