Learn Spanish; Weigh in on the Public Pool Debate

Here's what's happening on Wednesday, and the rest of the week, here in Shrewsbury.

1. Plan on giving at the community blood drive, coming up on Thursday, July 25. According to the Community Advocate, the American Red Cross holds the drive at the Shrewsbury Senior Center from 2-8 p.m., with residents from surrounding towns also invited.

2. The latest newsletter from Sen. Michael Moore, D-Millbury, details the approval of the Conference Committee Budget. "The final budget depends on new revenue such as an increase in the gas tax, a sales tax on certain computer software services and an increase in the tobacco tax, which were included in the transportation finance legislation passed by the Legislature in April. The budget also draws $350 million out of the state's 'rainy day' fund."

3. Readers are split on the question, "Should Shrewsbury build a public pool?" What do you think?

4. Want to learn Spanish? The Shrewsbury Public Library is offering a beginner's Spanish class starting at the end of the month. Registration is required, and sometimes these classes fill up. Here's your chance.

5. Eight streets got, or will have gotten, a resurfacing treatment by the end of September. Are you on one of them? Do you drive on one of them?
