The Southwick Zoo located in Mendon is the largest zoo in New England. Offering a family adventure through wildlife that includes giraffes, lions, tigers and primates. It even has a Sky Ride that takes visitors above the zoo to see the animals in their natural habitats. Tougas Farm is a closer ride and offers apple and berry picking throughout the spring, summer and fall. It also has a great climbing playground with tractors, swings and tire swings. Today's Passport to Shrewsbury gives us a look back on the town. The General Artemas Ward House Museum was the home of the first commander-in-chief of the patriot forces during the American Revolution. Ward was born on Nov. 26, 1727, and lived most of his life in Shrewsbury. On July 31, 1750, he married Sarah Trowbridge, daughter of Rev. Caleb Trowbridge and Hannah Walter of Groton. They had eight children. Ward attended the common schools, was prepared for college by a private tutor and graduated from Harvard College with a bachelor of arts in 1748 and a master's in 1751.
