Shrewsbury Declares State of Emergency
With Hurricane Irene coming this weekend, town officials get serious.
Town officials have declared a state of emergency for the town as Hurricane Irene travels up the coast.
Selectman James Kane and Town Manager Daniel Morgado declared the state of emergency as of noon today until further notice.
Gov. Deval Patrick also declared a state of emergency across the state as of noon this afternon.
That means that the state will have access to mobilizing organizations such as the National Guard to help in the emergency. Patrick asked people stay off the roads on Sunday during the worst part of the storm.
School officials said that Tuesday's first day of school may be delayed depending on the devastation in town.
Shrewsbury's AMF Bowling has been closed on Sunday.
