Several From Shrewsbury Graduate from Saint John's

On Sunday, May 19, at 9:30 a.m., the Saint John’s High School commencement for the Class of 2013 took place in the Hart Center at the College of the Holy Cross. Rev. José Rodriguez celebrated the baccalaureate liturgy with concelebrant Rev. Edward Niccolls. Headmaster Michael Welch presented the Award for Scholastic Excellence to James Zatsiorsky of Shrewsbury and the Xaverian Award to John Giacoppe of Leominster. James Zatsiorsky gave the Valedictory Address to his classmates, in which he thanked his family and Saint John’s for instilling in him the invaluable practice of preparation and pride in one’s accomplishments that drives him daily.

The 252 members of the Saint John’s graduating class of 2013 will be matriculating to over 160 different colleges and universities, and five will move on to military academies in the fall (U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Naval Academy).

Saint John’s High School has educated young men in grades 9-12 under the guidance and sponsorship of the Catholic Xaverian Brothers since 1898. The mission of the Xaverian Brothers and Saint John’s has always been one of service to God through service to our fellow man. Saint John’s college preparatory curriculum has gained a strong reputation for academic excellence, but Saint John’s is also committed to the development of the “whole person”: spiritual, moral-ethical, social, intellectual, physical, creative and aesthetic. The school enrolls about 1,000 young men in four grades on its Shrewsbury campus.
