Police Log: Heroin Trafficking, Assault at the High School

The following information was provided by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

 

Thursday, Nov. 29

7:11 a.m.: One person was injured in a two-car crash on Holden Street. Both vehicles were towed.

8:52 a.m.: A street sweeper was reportedly involved in a crash on Hartford Turnpike. Officers were unable to find the crash.

9:36 a.m.: One patient refused medical treatment after a crash on Julio Drive. Both vehicles involved were towed.

10:59 a.m.: A caller from Meadow Lane reported two suspicious males that knocked on her door then left in a pickup truck. An officer spoke to the men who were working on Grove Meadow.

12:50 p.m.: A caller reported an assault that occurred at an apartment on Hartford Turnpike. Andres Eduardo Abreu, 47, of 845 Hartford Turnpike Room 109, was arrested. Shrewsbury Police officers have charged him with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime. Abreu was also charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, possession of a class A substance with intent to distribute and heroin trafficking.

2:20 p.m.: A caller reported a male hitchhiker on South Quinsigamond Road. An officer spoke to the man who was a Shrewsbury resident looking for a job.

2:49 p.m.: A driver was cited after a hit and run crash on North Street.

3:35 p.m.: An elderly couple reported that they had just been involved in a hit and run on South Quinsigamond.

4:50 p.m.: An officer witnessed a hit and run near White City Shopping Center and took a report.

5:22 p.m.: Two people were transported home after the Shrewsbury Fire Department responded to a fire between Woodway Drive and Park Street.

5:56 p.m.: Officers responded to a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Route 20. The male who had been hit died at the hospital.

7:38 a.m.: An officer responded to UMass Medical Center to speak with a person who had been assaulted earlier in the day at the Shrewsbury High School.

8:33 a.m.: An officer and the K9 searched Pineland Avenue for marijuana.

9:18 p.m.: Officers served an arrest warrant on South Quinsigamond and took Luis Melendez, 35, of 67 Hollis St. Apt. 2, Worcester. The warrant charges were for a failure to pay fines.

Friday, Nov. 30

Continuing: Officers issued several written and verbal warnings after motor vehicle stops around town.
