UPDATED: VT Driver Struck, Killed Pedestrian on Route 20

The collision was reported after 6 p.m. Thursday.

10:11 p.m.:

Shrewsbury police released a statement, confirming a pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 20 on Thursday, Nov. 29. Police were dispatched to the scene at 5:56 p.m. in the vicinity of 200 Hartford Turnpike (Route 20).

The vehicle, a 2010 Jeep Liberty driven by Joanne Breault of Jericho, VT, headed east on Route 20 when it hit the victim, who was attempting to cross Route 20 near the Edgemere Trailer Park.

The Worcester Telegram and Gazette reported that neighbors said the man who was hit took care of his severely-diabetic brother. Neighbors told the Telegram that the victim had gone to Dunkin' Donuts to buy aspirin.

Shrewsbury police and fire, as well as UMass paramedics, treated the victim, who was transported to University University Campus Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Breault was not injured in the crash.

The identification of the pedestrian is being withheld upon notification of next of kin.

The accident is under investigation by Officer Richard H Fiske, Shrewsbury Police Accident Reconstructionist. Assisting in the investigation was the Central Mass Law Enforcement Regional Reconstruction Team.

7:38 p.m.: 

Authorities on the scene said the victim is a middle-aged man who was struck while crossing the road near Dunkin Donuts at 126 Hartford Turnpike.

7:30 p.m.:

The car that hit the victim has Vermont plates and is a Jeep SUV.

7 p.m.:

Patch is on the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian who was hit outside of Ellis Automotive Sales and Service at 152 Hartford Turnpike. The victim was transported via ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Collision Reconstruction team has been called out to investigate it as a pedestrian fatality. They are en route now.

Shrewsbury Police said there would be more information released shortly.
