2Ovens Looks to Become Local Watering Hole

The new restaurant at White City Plaza will be opening on Dec. 3.

Looking for a new spot to hang out? Look no further than 2Ovens at the newly improved White City Plaza.

The new restaurant looks to bring in all types of casual diners to their casual restaurant Executive Chef Jeff Tenner said.

“We want this to be a place were people can come any day, not somewhere that’s only for special occasions,” Tenner said.

The restaurant, which is part of the Bertucci’s Corporation, takes the brick oven concept and ratchets it up to a new level making the ovens a focal point when you walk in to the restaurant.

“The ovens are a major focus," he said. "They’re located right behind the bar so you can watch your food being made—pizza in one oven burgers and other foods in the second oven."

There will be 10 beers on tap and four wines when the restaurant opens, a no bottles atmosphere that Tenner said will keep the atmosphere casual. The bar will also serve mixed drinks to patrons.

“All the tables in here are high-tops, and there is no separate dining room,” Tenner said. “We think it will make a great flow between everyone at the bar and sitting with their friends.”

According to Tenner the restaurant is something that is missing in the area.

"We think this is good for the community of Shrewsbury and for Worcester, it will give people a place to come in the evenings and relax."

The restaurant is nearly complete inside with the ovens already fired up to get the new staff trained. It opens to the public on Dec. 3.

I'm a Papa Gino's guy myself, but I tried this place out today due to one thing: spicy pineapple pizza. I thought the food was very good (although the pineapple wasn't spicy at all), but very overpriced. At $10 for a small two-topping that is smaller than most rival small pizzas in town, the value was disappointing. That being said, the service was very friendly and the food was fresh. If they could tweak their prices a bit (an add more heat to their pineapple!), this could be a real winner.

Papa Gino's!! Are you serious!!! Dan please take off your chef hat off and throw away your can opener. Papa Gino's is a sad excuse for a pie. It's a shame that your taste buds have not been exposed to food that is truly made fresh that is met to delight your taste buds rather than to fill your cavity you call a stomach!
