Kenneth Burns Bridge Project Has Minimal Disruption on Traffic
You've likely noticed the work on the bridge over Lake Quinsigamond.
With most of the work happening after 9 p.m., the Kenneth F. Burns Bridge project has not disrupted businesses in the area, officials and business community members have said.
“But the tough part is the perception that the roads will be adversely affected even during the day,” Town Engineer Jack Perreault told the Community Advocate this month. “But MassDOT has heard loud and clear from us that this can’t impact traffic. So they have agreed that there will be two lanes of traffic in each direction [going over the bridge] at all times.”
Between summer 2012 and late 2015, a design/build team led by The Middlesex Corporation under the direction of MassDOT, will replace the current Bridge with a new steel deck arch bridge. Construction of the new bridge will cost approximately $89 million.
The MassDOT maintains a webpage specifically about the project. Visit it by clicking here.
