Fit and Match

One expert shares the essentials of the college search.

Educational Consultant Judy Zodda says finding the right college is all about finding a college that appreciates a student's talents.

Parents and teens alike filed into the Shrewsbury Public Library's Large Meeting Room on Tuesday evening Oct. 19 to hear what Zodda, owner of Zodda College Services in Framingham, had to say on the subject of college planning—and there certainly is a lot to say.

"I could speak for hours," said Zodda, who covered as much material as possible in the 45 minutes allotted to her.

Using power point and audience handouts, she treated the audience to her presentation titled College Admissions – The Real Story…Opening a World of College Possibilities for Your Child.

As a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), Zodda stated that though her office is in eastern Massachusetts, geography makes little difference when it comes to clientele.

With clients from as far away as Texas, Florida and Wisconsin, Zodda holds meetings through Skype, over the phone, or via e-mail and text. Whether a family is local or distant, she prides herself in finding out as much as she can about each student she represents, with the goal of "presenting him or her in the best possible light."

If parents and students took nothing else from her presentation, Zodda hopes they walked away with the knowledge that searching for a college is all about "fit and match."

With 2,500 four-year colleges and universities country-wide, students who start early and work hard should find one that appreciates their unique qualities.

When a college or university sees reason to embrace a particular student, said Zodda, it is more likely to provide financial assistance to make the opportunity possible.
