Escape to the Tropics
Lalajava offers a vacation in a cup.
Last week some strange astrological confluence bestowed upon me the virtually unimaginable–a babysitter and two uninterrupted afternoon hours to fill.
I had a good book with me, and I wanted a place to relax and have a cup of coffee and maybe something to eat, so I headed to Lalajava Coffeehouse.
The demise of Lalajava’s Shrewsbury tiki hut location may have had some customers worried, but the coffeehouse has managed to retain much of its original flair at its Northborough location.
Visitors to Lalajava are greeted by the strains of world music as they enter a world of tropical flavors and sights that promises immediate relaxation. The ambiance is casual; drink selections (and they seem endless) hang on rustic boards that recall something you might find in a shack on an island beach. Choose from familiar or funky hot and cold coffees and teas, chai, lemonade, smoothies and frozen drinks.
If you’re hungry, Lalajava offers an ever-changing assortment of pastries as well as soups, grilled cheese sandwiches and other fare like the California Brunch–hummus, cucumbers, tomatoes and avocados sprinkled with lemon pepper and served on a bagel or flatbread.
Lalajava also sells t-shirts, jewelry and other merchandise.
Lalajava Coffeehouse is located at 290 W. Main Street in Northborough. Call 508-393-7625 or better yet, just drop by to see what concoctions they’re offering. Hours are Monday–Thursday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
