5 Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 1

Vote for your favorite nail salon in town.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The deadline to register to vote for the Sept. 6 State Primary is 8 p.m. Fri., Aug. 17. Register at the . Mail-in registration forms must be postmarked by Fri., Aug. 17.

2. Absentee ballots for the Sept. 6 State Primary are available at the Town Clerk's Office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is noon. Sept. 5. Vote in person at the Town Clerk's Office or request a ballot in writing. Ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk's Office by 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6.

3. Today is Aug. 1, which starts National Immunization Awareness Month, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For more information, click here.

4. According to other sources, August is also National Catfish Month and National Breastfeeding MonthHyundai wants to make it National Fuel Efficiency Month.
