  • Survived by: his wife of 59 years, Marie A. (Morano) DePalo; four children, Maurice P. DePalo of Westborough, David M. DePalo, Paul F. DePalo of Shrewsbury, and Doreen M. Phenix; also survived by nine grandchildren.

Pantaleo P. "Pal" DePalo, 81 of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, in Holy Trinity Rehabilitation in Worcester after an illness. 

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Maurizio and Giovannina (Terlizzi) DePalo. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. Mr. DePalo served as captain in the 181st Infantry Division of the National Guard for more than 20 years. 

Pal was a home builder with the family business, M. DePalo & Sons in Shrewsbury for many years. He also was a master plumber and worked for Paragon Plumbing and Saint Vincent Hospital both in Worcester. In his retirement years, he worked with his brother, Moe at the Pool & Spa Sales Center in Shrewsbury and for the Waves and Flames Pool Store, also in Shrewsbury.

Mr. DePalo was a member of the Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury for more than 50 years. He also was a member of the Worcester P & P Local, Plumbing Union, and a former member of the Adelphi Council # 4181 of the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury. 

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he leaves his children, Maurice P. DePalo of Westborough, David M. DePalo and his wife, Beth of Worcester, Paul F. DePalo and his wife, Robin of Shrewsbury, and Doreen M. Phenix and her husband, Patrick of Worcester; also survived by nine grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Jessica, Eric, Gianna, Nicholas, Matthew, Ashley and Anthony; two step-grandchildren, James and Kendal; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Maurice DePalo and his wife, Clara and a sister, Angelina Simisky and her husband, Edward.

His funeral was celebrated from the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 18, with a Mass in St. Anne's. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery Shrewsbury.
